Bigwin Inn on Bigwin Island, Lake of Bays, was one of Canada’s most luxurious summer resort hotels when it opened in 1920. From lavish lake-side dining halls to its own golf course, it offered practically every amenity desired by its upper-class clientele.

In 1949 21-year-old Maryleah Otto, a student from Toronto, landed a summer job in Bigwin’s own post office. Her memories of that summer provide an intriguing inside look at the famous resort as she shares adventures, work, and social life with new friends. She had special reason never to forget that summer, for it was at Bigwin that she met the man she would marry.
